Hymn text

I remember the Lord of the gods — curved-trunked, mighty, the six-syllabled one, ocean of grace — him I salute for freedom from debt.

I adore Mahāgaṇapati — the great bridge across existence, mighty, the One without a second — him I salute for freedom from debt.

The one-syllabled (Oṁ itself), single-tusked, the one eternal Brahman, the god who removes great obstacles — him I salute for freedom from debt.

Clad in white, white-hued, anointed with white unguents, the god wholly made of whiteness — him I salute for freedom from debt.

Clad in red, red-hued, anointed with red unguents, worshipped with red flowers — him I salute for freedom from debt.

Clad in black, dark-hued, anointed with dark unguents, wearing the dark sacred thread — him I salute for freedom from debt.

Clad in yellow, yellow-hued, anointed with yellow unguents, worshipped with yellow flowers — him I salute for freedom from debt.

The Self of all, of every hue, anointed with every fragrance, worshipped with every flower — him I salute for freedom from debt.

Whoever recites this debt-removing hymn at the three junctures of the day — within six months his debt is severed, without doubt.

Completing ten thousand repetitions, one becomes free of debt and wealthy.
