Hymn text

The goddess went near the blue-necked Lord, who is dear to me, and with kindness Goddess Parvati asked Shankara, the doer of mercy.

The Goddess said: my dear, please tell me how the timid, the poor and family men would cross over poverty and get wealth bestowed on them.

The God of all then praised the words of Parvati, and said that it was apt for the mother of the world to ask this, as she has compassion for all beings.

After saluting Lord Rama, along with Sita, his brothers and Anjaneya, I am telling this great prayer with great happiness.

My words are indeed true: this prayer to the giver of wealth would bless the devoted ones with wealth and all sorts of comforts.

Reading it, or getting it read by Brahmins devoted to religion, would immediately lead to earning of money, and poverty will be destroyed.

I pray you, who exists as prosperity on earth, to be the wish-giving perennial tree to devotees, and assume the form of the divine wish-fulfilling cow.

Oh Goddess Dhanadha, who is the wealth giver, who is habitually a giver and shows mercy, you please be pleased, oh consort of Mahesh, for I am praying to you to grant wealth.

Oh Goddess who likes the devas of earth, oh holy one, oh blessed one, oh Goddess worshipped by Kubera, please grant immediately the blessed wealth to him who worships you.

Oh pretty one, oh darling of Rudra, oh Goddess with good form, oh Goddess who is liked by Rati, oh Goddess who dwells in the mind of the friend of the peacock, please be kind to me who salutes your feet.

Oh Goddess whose feet are like the blood-red lotus, who blesses with all divine powers, who wears divine silk, who shines adorned with a divine garland.

Oh Goddess possessor of all good qualities, marked with every auspicious sign, whose face is like the full moon of spring, whose eyes are like the blue lotus.

Oh Goddess whose curly tresses are lovely with a garland followed by an army of bees, oh Mother, oh divine one, whose voice is like the nectar of the dark-throated one.

Oh Goddess who with her ever-smiling divine glances removes the worries of devotees, who is the reservoir of beauty, youth, mercy and good qualities.

Oh Goddess whose anklets tinkle and whose lotus hands are playful, who makes Lord Rudra shine, who is the truth, the basis of Dharma and the dwelling of the earth.

Please provide wealth to him who is the chief of the rituals, wealth by which he can do Dharma; oh Mother, without any delay show me this wealth, oh mother of the universe.

Oh ocean of mercy, please grant my good requests; oh Earth, oh Goddess who has the form of earth, who is saluted by the Vasus and Lord Indra.

Oh goddess of wealth who is worshipped by Brahma and Brahmins, who is Parvati along with Lord Shiva, bless the doer of the rituals and be pleased.

This prayer removes the disease of poverty and blesses with good wealth; oh Goddess Shankari who bestows wealth and splendour, please bless kindly me, your servant.

By the grace of the Lord of Parvati this was told by the servant of the king of gods; those who read it with faith and have it read with devotion.

Thousands and lakhs of wealth would surely be gained. Salutations to the wealth giver and to the lord of the treasure-lotus. By your grace may I have wealth, grain and other prosperities.
