Opening couplet

I salute Lord Vishwakarma, meditating on his lotus feet.

O treasure of mercy, grant glory, blessing, strength and craft-skill.

Hymn text

Hail Lord Vishwakarma; hail Vishweshwar, treasure of mercy.

Preceptor of crafts, most benevolent, famed as Bhuvana’s son.

Eighth Vasu, Prabhasa’s wise son, who revealed craft-knowledge to the world.

Wondrous maker of all creation, bearer of true Vedic wisdom for the world’s good.

Peerless is your radiance in the world; none in the universe knows its measure.

Maker of the universe, O Vishwesha, wondrous-hued, radiant, fair-attired.

One-faced and five-faced you shine; two-armed, four-armed, ten-armed adorned.

Bearing discus Sudarshan, and water-pot in your excellent hand.

Treatise of craft and matchless conch; measuring thread graces you.

Bow, arrow and trident shine; in the ninth hand a heart-enchanting lotus.

The tenth hand blesses the world — a noble bridge across existence’s ocean.

You pared the sun’s fierceness, forging arms and weapons from it.

Discus, spear and trident as one; staff, palanquin and many weapons.

To Vishnu the discus, to Shankar the trident, to Brahma the spear, to Yama the staff.

To Indra the thunderbolt, to Varuna the noose — you fulfilled everyone’s hope.

Weapons of every kind you fashioned, ever guarding the true path, Lord.

You forged the nectar-pot; saviour of saints, devotees and gods.

Iron, wood, copper, stone — supreme adorner of golden craft.

Lightning, fire, wind, earth, water — with these you accomplish marvels.

Vessels of many kinds for food and drink; mansions of diverse design.

Countless machines for varied goods — you built the entire world.

Fragrant substances, many flowers, diverse great medicines with discernment.

Shambhu, Viranchi, Vishnu, guardians, Varuna, Kubera, Agni, Yama, Kala...

All came together to you, bowed in homage and sang your praise.

Seeing the gods’ grief, the Lord grew eager; he acted and all were freed of sorrow.

Wondrous mind-pleasing craft you built, plying water, land and sky alike.

Between Shiva and Lord Vishwakarma, science says there is no divide.

Who can describe your form? All creation is your expanse.

For the world’s good you take threefold body; without you, who ends worldly woe?

Root of blessing, remover of devotees’ fear, grief-free wanderer of the three worlds.

Through all four ages your glory shines, famed, world-illumining.

You grant Riddhi-Siddhi; noble knower of the Vedas’ science.

Manu, Maya, Tvashta, craftsman Taksha — you ever guard them all.

No merciful one equals you, Lord, who ends the world’s calamities.

Hail, hail, hail, Bhuvana’s Vishwakarma; show mercy, virtuous divine teacher.

Whoever chants a hundred and eight finds troubles wane and great joy.

Whoever reads the Vishwakarma Chalisa finds fulfilment; Gaurisha bears witness.

Vishwakarma, Lord of the universe, be pleased — we are your children.

I am ever Umapati’s servant; Lord, ever dwell within my heart.

Closing couplet

Show mercy like Shankar, Vishwakarma of Shiva’s form; with blessed auspicious creation, dwell in my heart, O king of gods.
