Hymn text

Sing the aarti of dear Hanuman, scourge of the wicked, embodiment of Raghunath’s art.

By whose strength great mountains tremble; illness and fault dare not draw near him.

Son of Anjani, giver of great strength, eternal helper of the virtuous.

Raghunath gave his ring and sent him; he burned Lanka and brought back news of Sita.

Though Lanka lay beyond the ocean’s moat, the Son of the Wind crossed in no time.

He burned Lanka, destroyed the demons, and fulfilled the mission of Siya-Ram.

When Lakshman lay senseless at dawn, he brought the life-restoring herb and saved him.

He entered the underworld, broke death’s prison, and tore off Ahiravan’s arms.

With his left arm he struck the demon hosts; with his right he ferried devotees across.

Gods, humans and sages wave the lamps, crying hail, hail, hail to Hanuman.

In a golden platter the camphor flame glows, as Mother Anjana waves the aarti.

Whoever sings Hanuman’s aarti is believed to dwell in Vaikuntha and attain the supreme state.
