Hymn text
Service of Ganapati brings auspicious fortune; through service all obstacles depart. All the gods of the three worlds stand at his door, ever making their supplication.
Riddhi and Siddhi sit at his right and left and wave the fans with delight; devotees stand with incense, lamps and the aarti, crying victory.
Sweet modaks of jaggery are offered and carried up on his mouse-vehicle; seeing his gentle form, obstacles flee far away.
In the month of Bhadrapada, on the bright fourth day at noon, obstacles depart — Lord Ganapati took birth and Durga’s heart fills with joy.
Indra’s wondrous music plays and all the divine kinfolk sing; joy arose from Shiva, and hearing the name, every obstacle departs.
The Creator comes and takes his seat while Indra and the apsaras dance; Brahma and the Vedas see him and name him Destroyer of Obstacles.
One-tusked, elephant-faced Vinayaka takes a unique three-eyed form; his stout belly rests on his planted feet, and the god Moon smiles.
He gave his curse to Shri Chandradev, making him lose his phases at once; Ganapati roams the fourteen worlds and reigns over the three.
Whoever rises at dawn and recites and meditates sees all their tasks accomplished; whoever sings the aarti at the time of worship has the canopy of fame circle over their head.
Worshipping Ganapati first makes every task proceed without obstacle; all devotees fold their hands before Ganapati Ji and offer praise.
