Opening couplet

As steadfast as the Himalaya, as unshaken as Sumeru,

so stands Kubera unmoved at heaven’s gate.

Remover of obstacles, maker of blessings, hear the shelter-seeker’s cry;

for devotees distribute heaps of wealth.

Hymn text

Hail Kubera the treasurer; you command wealth and riches.

Blazing with austerity’s fire, fearless, dispelling fear, body strong as wind’s speed.

Guarding heaven’s gate, obedient servant of Indra.

A mighty yaksha army; in war you lead as archer commander.

As great warrior bearing arms, you fight and slay foes.

Ever victorious, never defeated; you avert devotees’ crises.

Your great-grandsire is Brahma himself, famed born of Pulastya’s line.

Vishrava your father, Idavida your mother; devotee Vibhishan your brother.

When you meditated on Shiva’s feet, harsh austerity withered your body.

By Shiva’s boon you gained godhood; drinking nectar, your body turned immortal.

Dharma’s banner ever in hand; gods and goddesses attend you.

Yellow garments on your limbs; full strength and power in yaksha-kind.

Upon a golden throne you sit; trident and mace adorn your hands.

Conch, drum and kettledrum sound; Gandharvas sing sweet melodies.

Sixty-four yoginis sing blessings; Riddhi-Siddhi daily offer delicacies.

Servants wave parasols overhead; yakshas fan you with fly-whisks.

As Parshuram is strong among sages, as Hanuman among gods...

As Bhima among men, so Kubera among yakshas.

As Prahlad is great among devotees, as Garuda among birds...

As Shesha among serpents, so great is devotee Kubera.

Bow on shoulder, spear in hand, garland of flowers round your neck.

Golden crown and vast form; radiance spreads far and wide.

Whoever holds Kubera in heart ever wins, never loses.

All spoilt works succeed; granaries stay filled with grain and wealth.

Kubera lifts the poor; Kubera swiftly clears debts.

Kubera averts devotees’ crises; Kubera slays foes in a moment.

Whoever wishes to grow rich quickly — why not propitiate yaksha Kubera?

Whoever reads and teaches this lesson doubles business day by day.

Kubera drives off ghosts; Kubera completes stalled works.

Kubera destroys disease-grief; Kubera removes stain and leprosy.

Kubera raises the risen higher; Kubera lifts the fallen again.

Kubera wakes fortune at once; Kubera shows the lost their way.

Kubera quenches the thirsty; Kubera ends the hungry’s hunger.

Kubera lessens the sick one’s sickness; Kubera frees the sufferer from sorrow.

Kubera fills the barren lap; Kubera grows the business.

Kubera frees from prison; Kubera saves from thieves and cheats.

Kubera wins court cases for whoever meditates on Kubera.

Kubera grants election victory, seating devotees in ministerial posts.

Whoever recites daily with devotion finds their art ever excelling.

Whosever pleases Kubera’s mother lives a life of ease.

Closing couplet

Drive away the darkness now, delay not; I lie at your shelter — turn your gracious glance.
