Hymn text
Maṅgala, son of the Earth, remover of debt and giver of wealth, firm of seat, mighty of body, obstructor of all undertakings (when adverse) —
Crimson-hued and red-eyed, gracious to the singers of the Sāman, son of Earth — Kuja, Bhauma — giver of prosperity, Earth's delight —
Aṅgāraka, the restrainer, remover of every disease, maker and withholder of rain, bestower of the fruit of every desire (— such are Maṅgala's names).
Whoever daily recites these names of Kuja with faith — debt never arises for him, and he swiftly obtains wealth.
Born of Earth's womb, radiant as lightning, the youth bearing the śakti-lance in hand — to that Maṅgala I bow.
Let men ever recite this hymn of Aṅgāraka; for them not even the slightest affliction born of Mars ever arises.
O most blessed Aṅgāraka, O Lord tender to your devotees! I bow to you — swiftly destroy my entire debt.
Debt, disease, poverty, every threat of untimely death, with fear, affliction and anguish of mind — may they all be destroyed for me for ever.
O most crooked of course, hard to propitiate, free of indulgence, self-mastered! Pleased, you bestow an empire; displeased, you take it away that very instant.
When even Brahmā, Indra and Viṣṇu feel your sway, what to say of men? Hence with all your might you are the mighty king among the planets.
Grant me sons, grant me wealth — tormented by the sorrow of debt and poverty and by fear of enemies, I have come to your refuge.
Whoever praises the Earth's son with these twelve verses gains great fortune, becoming as it were a second youthful Kubera.
